Coronavirus: FMH Policy Changes

Over the last few weeks, FMH has made changes to comply with CDC social distancing guidelines for both office and field staff.

A primary focus of the executive leadership team at FMH is to maintain the health and well-being of our employees, customers, and vendors. FMH has been closely monitoring CDC and local organization guidelines to update its policies and comply with current recommendations for managing the Coronavirus outbreak.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve made the following changes to comply with CDC social distancing guidelines for both office and field staff:

Office Staff

  • Over 95% of our office employees are working from home.
  • Anyone working in the office is adhering to social distancing and other health guidelines.
  • The Home Office and Story City Offices are closed to all non-essential employees, visitors, or vendors, as well as the front lobby. Calls to reception are being redirected.

Field Staff

  • Adjusters are calling producers to keep them aware of what needs done in the claim process.
  • Producers have the option to conduct business via phone, email, and mail to process claims instead of meeting in person.
  • Only the adjuster is required to be present for field inspections.

Travel

  • All non-essential business travel has been canceled. Meetings and events have been canceled or postponed until further notice and are being conducted via conference calls or virtually, where possible.
  • Employees who have recently traveled are self-quarantined at home for 14-days after returning, as well as those who have been directly exposed to the virus, or if they or a family member have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Employees are asked to self-report any exposure or diagnosis so the necessary steps can be taken.
  • Claims employees who reside in a state or city that has issued a "stay-at-home" order will be provided with a Travel Authorization document, which allows them to travel for work, where insurance services are deemed as essential functions.

Based on President Trump's announcement to extend the nationwide social distancing guidelines through April 30, 2020, FMH will continue to have office employees work from home if they are able to do so.

While these changes were implemented quickly, our employees have risen to the challenge and continue to take calls and process business to ensure no disruption in customer service. Conditions are changing daily and are being evaluated by our executive team so that we can update our policies as needed.

We hope that you and your families stay safe and well.
