Winter Business Activities on The Farm

Farmer’s markets, pick-your-own, and corn mazes may be top of mind for your farm & ranch clients this time of year, but winter activities will be here before we know it.

Now is a good time to make sure your clients have the right insurance coverage if they plan to offer sleigh rides, winter holiday markets, or Christmas tree sales.

Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides

  • On insured location only
  • Up to $25,000 annual receipts for ride fees
  • Seating must be fastened and a permanent railing in place
  • Equine Liability Coverage extends coverage for horse-related exposures for owned or leased horses.

Christmas Tree Sales

  • Seasonal sale of Christmas trees and tree trimming items
  • Sales on owner occupied and operated farms only
  • Customers may not use axes, hatchets or chain saws to cut trees
  • Christmas Tree Operations coverage

Winter Markets

  • Off premises booths at farmers or holiday markets
  • Up to $100,000 in annual receipts at the market
  • Note: Roadside stands on the farm are included in our basic farm & ranch policy at no extra cost

More Coverage Your Clients May Need for Winter Business Activities

When you review your clients’ winter operations, consider these coverages that can be added to the farm & ranch policy:

  • Business activities coverage: Adds liability arising out of business activity on or from insured location.
  • Business property coverage: Property related to the covered agritainment activity, such as items held for sale or equipment used to conduct the activity.
  • Cyber Suite endorsement: Endorses the farm & ranch policy instead of purchasing a separate policy to cover risks of data compromise and identity theft.
  • Employment practices liability coverage: Designed to protect farms for liability damages and defense due to covered claims brought by employees.
